Which face capture device to choose: Headcam or a Headrig?

Choose Headrig if you want the simplest setup for iPhone-based face capture. Mount your iPhone, open the Rokoko Face Capture app on iOS, and connect to Rokoko Studio for real-time capture and streaming. Choose Headcam if you want a head-mounted camera that can be used as a camera input (with USB-C plug) in other tools like MetaHuman Animator, AccuFace and others.

Do I need to get a Rokoko Studio subscription to use Headcam or Headrig?

If you want facial motion capture data in Rokoko Studio, then yes - you’ll use the Rokoko Face Capture app (iOS with iPhone/Headrig, or Android with Headcam) together with Rokoko Studio. This feature requires a Rokoko Studio Pro subscription.

Do I need an iPhone to use the Headrig (and do Android phones work)?

For Rokoko’s iOS face capture workflow, you’ll need an iPhone. Rokoko’s Face Capture app for this workflow supports iOS, and we recommend using Headrig with an iPhone and the Rokoko Face Capture app. Android phones can fit in the Headrig, but Rokoko’s Face Capture app for this setup is iOS-supported, so an iPhone is the recommended choice.

Do Headcam and Headrig work with other 3rd-party software?

Yes. Through Rokoko Studio, you can stream facial motion data to popular 3D tools using Rokoko’s integration plugins (including Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Maya, MotionBuilder, Cinema 4D, Houdini, and iClone). Headcam is workflow-agnostic and can be used with third-party face capture tools that accept a camera feed, such as MetaHuman Animator, Reallusion AccuFACE, Faceware, and VSeeFace.
